State of the State Address Lacks A Detailed Housing Plan
NYAA Statement of the 2025 State of the State address
(New York, NY) – Gov. Kathy Hochul delivered her State of the State address in Albany. Despite the ongoing housing crisis in the state, her proposals didn’t address the scale of the problem.
Please attribute the following statement to New York Apartment Association Chief Executive Officer Kenny Burgos.
“Missing from Governor Hochul’s State of the State address was anything about reducing the costs of housing or creating enough housing to address the state’s ongoing crisis. Limited government subsidies for a small number of nonprofits is not going to reduce rents or increase housing availability for the vast majority of New Yorkers.
“We are in a housing crisis that gets worse every year. We cannot ignore the severe lack of supply that is driving up costs or the rising operating costs that are putting the existing housing stock at risk. The path to fixing this is through regulatory reforms that will spur investment in housing.
“Lawmakers have the opportunity to enact better housing policies, and make New York a place where people want to be and can afford to live. We hope they recognize this and respond.”
