NYAA Statement of the 2025 State of the City
(New York, NY) – Mayor Adams gave his 2025 State of the City Address today at noon at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.
Please attribute the following statement to New York Apartment Association CEO Kenny Burgos.
“More housing is the key to a more affordable city. We appreciate Mayor Adams’ continued focus on increasing the supply of affordable housing. His vision of creating 100,000 more apartments in Manhattan is another step towards the ultimate goal of abundant housing.
“But we won’t get there just through rezoning. The city must do more to preserve the aging housing stock and reduce the high cost of housing from property taxes and insurance.
“We are hopeful that the Mayor’s office will advance regulatory reforms and targeted investments to help thousands of struggling rent-stabilized buildings to make sure we don’t lose housing just as quickly as we build new housing.”
