(New York, NY) – On Monday, March 3, 2025 there were delays in Section 8 voucher payments to property owners by NYCHA. This is the second month in a row that this has happened. Please attribute this statement to NYAA CEO Kenny Burgos:
“This can’t continue. There are thousands of unsubsidized rent-stabilized apartment buildings that provide the majority of housing in the city. And they are operating on razor thin margins. There is no access to funds if rent payments are late – and voucher payments are no exception.
“Every day a payment is late is a day when maintenance, mandatory upgrades, or property tax payments have to be delayed. Delays increase the overall costs of providing housing and make the city less affordable for all.
“We need to do better.”
